One of my favorite podcasts to listen to on a regular basis is the Doctors Farmacy with Dr. Mark Hyman. He recently did an episode titled "Are there any healthy sugars and sweeteners?" and did some really great true or false questions that I thought I would share will all of you...
True or False:
1. The main problem with sugar is its just empty calories.
FALSE! The calories definitely aren't empty and they are actually really terrible calories that do not support our nutrition or overall health. Sugar has been shown to lead to heart disease, diabetes, and obesity.
2. Agave syrup is healthy alternative to high fructose corn syrup and sugar.
FALSE! Agave is actually pure fructose, which can cause things like diabetes, fatty liver disease, and inflammation.
3. Butter and meat cause heart disease due to the saturated fat content, but carbs and sugar don't.
FALSE! This was something we were told for years, but new studies have shown that refined carbohydrates and sugar cause heart disease...not butter and meat!
